ETA Information Technology Certifications
The Computer Service Technician performs hardware servicing and provides systems software skills for personal computers. The knowledge used includes Computer Assembly/Disassembly; Motherboards; Buses; System Resources, Processor Characteristics; Physical and Electronic Memory Characteristics; Secondary Storage Devices; Peripheral Devices; Ports; Power Concepts and Supplies; Basic Networking; Portables; Digital Concepts; Troubleshooting/Preventive Maintenance; Operating Systems; File Management; Safety, Security and Workplace Practices.
If you hold a valid CompTIA A+ (ce) certification, then you are eligible for a rollover to an ETA Computer Service Technician certification! To apply, you will need to send a copy of your A+ (ce) certificate to ETA via fax (765) 653-4287 or email. You may also attach when filling out the online form. CST rollovers are $80. Lifetime CompTIA A+ certifications are not eligible for rollover.
If you hold a Standalone CST and later complete the Associate CET (CETa), then you are eligible to upgrade to a Journeyman CET! To apply for the Journeyman CET, you must have two or more years of training/experience. To upgrade, please fill out the Journeyman CET upgrade form. Journeyman upgrades are $55.

The Information Technology Security certification covers all areas of cybersecurity for information technology. ITS-certified specialists are expected to have the major knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to perform the professional tasks associated with the development of security plans and processes for information technology and cybersecurity. This certification identifies a specialist’s knowledge of computer hardware and software security measures as well as wireless communications security, device security, cryptography, social engineering, virus detection/mitigation, troubleshooting, disaster prevention/recovery and site risk analysis. It is highly suggested that an ITS have prior computer systems and computer networking experience.
If you hold a valid CompTIA Security+ (ce) certification, then you are eligible for a rollover to an ETA Information Technology Security certification! To apply, you will need to send a copy of your Security+ (ce) certificate to ETA via fax (765) 653-4287 or email. You may also attach when filling out the online form. ITS rollovers are $105. Lifetime CompTIA Security+ certifications are not eligible for rollover.

Network Computer Technicians are expected to obtain knowledge of computer electronics basic concepts, Internet and networking technology applicable to various areas of the computer industry. More specifically, NCTs must be able to function, structure, operate, file manage, install, configure/upgrade, manage memory, diagnose and troubleshoot operating systems and hardware (including motherboard and processors and printers).
If you hold a Standalone NCT and later complete the Associate CET (CETa), then you are eligible to upgrade to a Journeyman CET! To apply for the Journeyman CET, you must have two or more years of training/experience. To upgrade, please fill out the Journeyman CET upgrade form. Journeyman upgrades are $55.

A Network Systems Technician is a network professional who is expected to obtain knowledge of computer network basic concepts, which are applicable to the various specialty areas of the computer industry. The NST must be familiar with the following: Computer Network Terminology, Network Administration, Wide Area Networks and Devices Used to Extend Networks, Network Architectures, Computer Network Topologies and Classifications, Network Services, Network Operations, Network Standards, Troubleshooting LAN/WAN Test Equipment, Network Server and Workstation Computer System Hardware, Network Operating Systems, and Disaster and Security Planning for Networks.
If you hold a valid CompTIA Network+ (ce) certification, then you are eligible for a rollover to an ETA Network Systems Technician certification! The Wireless Network Technician is a network professional who is expected to obtain knowledge of the operation and maintenance of wireless networking concepts, RF and IR propagation and modulation technologies, which are applicable to all the various specialty areas of the wireless networking industry. Once the WNT has acquired these skills and knowledge, the technician will be able to enter employment in any part of the networking industry. With minimal training in areas unique to the specific products, the WNT should become a productive member of computer industry workforce.
If you hold a Standalone WNT and later complete the Associate CET (CETa), then you are eligible to upgrade to a Journeyman CET! To apply for the Journeyman CET, you must have two or more years of combined training/experience. To upgrade, please fill out the Journeyman CET upgrade form. Journeyman upgrades are $55.

Prepare For An Exam
Certification competencies are a well-ordered categorized structural listing of knowledge, standards reference, industry best practices, testing, and troubleshooting subject items necessary to be proficient in a given technology. You can find the corresponding competency to each ETA certification in their respective information box, located to the right of the certification description. Certification examination questions are derived from their respective competencies. ETA subject matter experts (SMEs) are vital proponents developing and improving each competency.
ETA offers many of the suggested study materials (listed at the end of each of our competencies) in the ETA online store. If you don't see the specific book you are looking for, then please check online or at your local bookstore.
ETA understands each individual is different in regards to their experiences, education, and skill sets. That's why ETA does not require examinees to purchase study materials. By knowing the topics listed on the corresponding competency, an examinee can feel confident that they will succeed on the exam.
ETA publishes two books in-house for the popular Associate CET (CETa) basic electronics and Customer Service Specialist (CSS) workforce readiness certifications. Each of these study guides are written by industry professionals, and feature chapter quizzes and practice exams (actual certification examination questions are derived from their respective competencies). ETA members receive a discount on the ETA study guides. Bulk discounts are also available.
Take An Exam
Once you have decided which ETA certification exam(s) you need to take, you will need to find an ETA test site near you to take the exam by using the ETA CA Locator.
Decide whether to take the exam online with Trapeza, ETA's online testing site, or on paper. A Certification Administrator must be present no matter which method of testing you select. You will then need to schedule a time to take the exam with your chosen Certification Administrator.
As provided for under the ADA (American’s with Disabilities Act), if you require special accommodations in order to complete the certification process, then please notify your Certification Administrator when scheduling your exam.
Maintaining Your Certification
Rapid changes in technology and products have also changed the methods used in servicing them. ETA supports certification maintenance and aligns to the ISO 17024 standard. Certification maintenance is also required by ETA's accrediting body, the International Certification Accreditation Council (ICAC).
By maintaining your ETA certification, you provide verification that as a certified technician, you are keeping up with current technology and enhancing your abilities and knowledge.
